Host Setup
Turn a Mac into a MetalCloud compute node. This is the only setup guide. The host dashboard links here.
Requirements
- macOS 14.0 (Sonoma) or later. macOS 15 or later is recommended.
- Apple silicon, M1 or later. M3 or M4 is recommended.
- 16 GB of memory minimum. 64 GB or more is recommended.
- 100 GB of free storage minimum. 500 GB or more is recommended.
- A 50 Mbps network connection minimum. 200 Mbps or faster is recommended.
Install the app
1
Open MetalCloud on the Mac
Install the MetalCloud menu bar app on the Mac you want to share, then open it from Applications. The app monitors the machine, pauses while you are using it, and connects it to your host account.
2
Link the Mac to your host account
Create a host account, or sign in with one you already have. Use that same account in the menu bar app so the Mac is linked to your dashboard.
Set availability
3
Choose when the Mac can take jobs
In the host dashboard, set availability and pricing. The Mac can then receive jobs during the hours you allow.
After setup
